Stephen F. Hedinger

Steve Hedinger attended Southern Illinois University School of Law, where he was managing editor of the Law Journal, was a member of the Moot Court Board, and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. He graduated summa cum laude in 1988, and then clerked for the Honorable Richard Mills, U.S. District Judge, in Springfield, Illinois from 1988 to 1990. He subsequently worked at a Springfield law firm as an associate and then as a partner, and after 2000 ran his own solo practice until joining Sorling Northrup in 2009 as a shareholder.

Mr. Hedinger has represented numerous clients, ranging from some of the world’s largest corporations to individuals and closely-held businesses, with respect to environmental and regulatory matters since 1990. His experience covers the entire range of environmental media and of the regulatory and litigation contexts in which environmental issues are raised. He has lectured, drafted articles, and authored treatise chapters on environmental issues, and maintains an active presence among the Illinois State Bar Association’s environmental and mineral law sections.

In addition to environmental matters, Mr. Hedinger also maintains an active litigation practice, including construction litigation. He also represents both plaintiffs and defendants in consumer-related matters, and he is in the vanguard of the emerging practice area focusing on legal issues related to animals.

Mr. Hedinger is a trained mediator, having received certifications from both Southern Illinois University School of Law and Aurora University. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Sangamon County Bar Association.
